A father bashed a 10 months old baby to death at Mala Kwai village in North East Malaita on Monday.
Atori police officers attended the infanticide case that occurred between 8am and 12pm the same day.
Operation Manager for Malaita Provincial Police Superintendent Michael Ramosaea said the father bashed the baby after he claimed that the infant was not his biological child.
Superintendent Ramosaea said the Atori police had obtained statements that will form part of police investigation into the sad incident.
Superintendent Ramosaea said the suspect is still on the run while investigation continues.
He assured that police will arrest the suspect as soon as possible and conveyed his condolences to the family and relatives for the loss of their loved one.
