Police have arrested and charged a 23-year-old male for an alleged rape incident that occurred Monday this week.
A Police Media statement said the incident happened at Lungga, East Honiara where the victim was a 20-year-old female.
The victim was on her way home after work on Monday evening when the suspect allegedly used a machete to threaten her and committed the offence.
Supervising Provincial Police Commander for Guadalcanal Province, Superintendent Nixon Manetoga said his officers responded to the case on Tuesday and apprehended the alleged suspect around the Plywood area the same day.
PPC Manetoga said the suspect was formally arrested, questioned and locked up at the Henderson Police Station.
Investigations into the alleged incident continues.
