The Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) has arrested a male suspect following the confiscation of about 1 kilogram of methamphetamine sent through posted mail recently.
RSIPF Commissioner Mr. Ian Vaevaso confirmed the arrest was the result of successful network-based intelligence with other law enforcement agencies.
Commissioner Vaevaso said, following the director of public prosecutions’ legal advice, the individual was charged.
Mr. Vaevaso said the suspect has been charged for importation and exportation of certain substances prohibited contrary to section 14 of the Dangerous Drug Act and is currently out on bail.
“The suspect will appear before the Honiara Central Magistrates’ Court on 27 May 2026 for his trial,” he said.
The new police chief said, “The RSIPF is serious about tackling this transnational crime issue and threats in the country and will soon establish a dedicated team for drug enforcement.”
The new police boss expressed his sincere thanks to all agencies that supported the RSIPF for the successful arrest of the suspect and appealed to the public to continue supporting the police with information that may lead to any drug-related activities within the communities.
The public is also strongly urged to avoid involvement in these illegal activities, citing heavy penalties and devastating health impacts methamphetamine can cause if taken.
The methamphetamine is currently stored in a safe police storage facility awaiting a court decision.
