The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock has registered support for the automatic weather station project.
A total of four stations will be installed under the project.
Speaking at yesterday’s Climate Service and Early Warning System Workshop, Permanent Secretary for Agriculture and Livestock Jimmy Saelea said the Agriculture Ministry registers its support to the Ministry responsible for Climate Change and Meteorology for initiating the idea in Solomon Islands.
The Permanent Secretary also described the project as ‘important’ – saying weather focus is important information in the Ministry’s planning activities.
“Ladies and gentlemen on that note I just want to register the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock’s support to the program that is being implemented to install the automatic weather stations across the country if possible. The importance of weather forecasting in agriculture covers a wide range of areas, like pest and disease monitoring, crop scheduling and crop marketing. It will be more important as farmers themselves will learn to use information in their daily farming activities.”
