Ambassador Yastishock Meets Prime Minister Manele and Foreign Minister Shanel; Visits Partners and Provincial Leaders in Honiara and Central Province

U.S. Ambassador to Solomon Islands Ann Marie Yastishock paid separate courtesy calls on Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele and Foreign Minister Peter  Agovaka Shanel on Tuesday, March 25.

On Wednesday, Ambassador Yastishock traveled to Central Province where she paid a courtesy call on Premier Michael Salini in Tulagi.

Premier Salini then took the Ambassador to Blue Beach, the site where U.S. Marines landed on August 7, 1942 and then to the site of the future colonial history museum. Ambassador Yastishock also had the opportunity to meet with students and teachers from McMahon Community High School. Ambassador Yastishock ended the day with a visit to Roderick Bay to learn more about the village’s tourism industry.

In addition, Ambassador Yastishock toured a United States Defense and POW/MIA Accounting Agency excavation site searching for the remains of U.S. Marines during the Battle of Guadalcanal.

She also met with HALO Trust officials at a site on Bloody Ridge to learn more about the United States Department of State’s funded program that maps and records the location of unexploded ordinance in the Solomon Islands.

Finally, the Ambassador met with alumni of U.S. government exchanges programs and discussed the impact of these people-to-people programs on participants and the United States-
Solomon Islands bilateral relationship.
