Artificial communities in Ata’a, North Malaita have successfully harvested their SwoCk-Based food crops this week.
The harvest comes after Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock with its stakeholders conducted a climate change adaptation workshop in Ata’a last year.
The communities expect to replant their crops after the harvest into the future with the skills and knowledge gained from the workshop.
Chairman of Ata’a Community SWoCk Based Program Mike Tango says communities will replant their crops after the harvest with skills and knowledge gained from that workshop.
“We are now harvesting the crops and they are now ready for distribution. Now if they get their crops, they will start to apply what they’ve acquired from the course and our community would also have to adopt the knowledge and skills acquired to plant our own gardens.”
The SWoCk program is housed under the Ministries of Agriculture and Live Stock and of Environment, Climate Change, Disaster Management and Meteorology.
It is funded through UNDP’s adaptation program.
