Attorney-General, James Apaniai has expressed concerns over the delay of dealing with the many disciplinary cases against legal practitioners.
Mr Apaniai said as the Attorney-General, he is the Chair of the disciplinary committee, but since six months in office, he has not received any briefing about the cases.
The Attorney-General says he intends to be more updated about these matters and will allocate office space for hearings.
“I wish to call upon those members of the legal proffession who have been appointed to be members of the disciplinary committee to cooperate with me to finalize these long outstanding cases. My chambers is in a process of trying to acquire a better and bigger office space and if we succeed, which I am sure we will, we should be able to temporarily allocate some space for a registry and a hearing chambers for such cases until permanent arrangements are made.”
Meanwhile, the President of the Solomon Islands Bar Association (SIBA), Whitlam Togamae said he has held a discussion with the Attorney-General last Friday about the outstanding matters.
Acknowledging the urgency of dealing with the cases, Mr Togamae said they will meet as soon as all members of the disciplinary committee are available.
