Australia supporting the Solomon Islands Law Reform Commission with new ICT equipment

Australia is pleased to handover ICT equipment that is critical for the Solomon Islands Law Reform Commission (SILRC) in carrying out its mandate.

Australian High Commission officials today provided eight new computers and supporting equipment to the SILRC, as part of the Solomon Islands Australia Partnership for Justice.

Australia’s program supports agencies across the justice sector and assists the Solomon Islands Government in achieving its objective of improving national security, law and order in Solomon Islands. This is includes strengthening national laws and regulations, and the work of the Law Reform Commission.

SILRC Chairman Mr Philip Kanairara, who accepted equipment on behalf of the agency, said “the Commission is most grateful to the Government of Australia, through the Australia Solomon Islands Partnership for Justice Program, for its assistance in providing the eight new computers which will greatly assist our mandate and improve our efficiency”.

He added that “these computers will replace the very old computers we have had from 2014 and which often required continuous maintenance”.

Australian High Commission Governance Counsellor Nicole Smith acknowledged “that a strong justice system underpins Solomon Islands’ stability and development, this is why Australia is proud to be Solomon Islands’ numbawan partner in the justice sector”.

She acknowledged the essential role that SILRC plays in the justice system, adding that “we are particularly pleased that this equipment will help SILRC continue its important work, ensuring that laws are accessible to all, and that they are in keeping with the changing needs of the Solomon Islands people”.
