Blood collection at the National Referral Hospital’s blood bank has improved over the past months.
Thanks to the Solomon Islands Red Cross in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Medical Services for their blood program.
Medical Lab Manager at the National Referral Hospital, Donald Tahani told SIBC’s ‘Distaem Nao’ program today, saying there has been an improvement at the blood bank so far.
“According to our records the blood collection program has so far improved a lot in the past few months and it’s very good for our patients and we thank the Solomon Islands Red Cross for their huge support towards this program so far.”
However, Mr. Tahani says while this is good news, the level of blood collection is still below weekly blood requirements at the National Referral Hospital.
“While we are happy with the improvement of our collection trend in the last few weeks, despite that good news, the level of collection is still below the requirement that we need. As we have always mentioned our recent records have shown that we currently need about 30-40 blood units per week, so we collected blood but still we haven’t reach that level as yet, but it’s a big boost and a good news for our patients at the hospital.”
