The National Medical Lab has only one operating blood testing machine after the breakdown of two of its other machines.
The issue has affected many blood sample tests in the country.
Head of the Lab Alfred Dofai told SIBC News the lab authorities are in the process of securing needed spare parts to restore one of the machines.
“We have three machines that can be used for testing blood levels to find out whether it’s normal or low, so at the moment two of our machines have broken down and only one is currently operational, but we are in the process of ordering the spare parts and now waiting for them to be flown in to restore one of them.”
Mr Dofai adds the Lab also acknowledges the challenges it is currently facing.
“So currently workload is a bit heavy for the samples coming into the National Referral Hospital as well as from around the country as well as clinics within Honiara City so that’s why backlog of tests are yet to be done because only one of the machines is working.”
