The caretaker NCRA Government wants to reform the Leadership Code Act to ensure the implementation of Chapters 3 and 4 of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption.
Assistant Secretary to Prime Minister Derek Futaiasi revealed this in his statement at the current 5th session of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption.
He informed the session, the Office of the Prime Minister has already informed and met with the Integrity Group Forum on this mandate from the Cabinet.
Mr Futaiasi explains an important move in this strategy is to reform the Leadership Code Act.
He says the reform’s objectives includes to guide and govern the conduct of Leaders and public officers; to establish an Integrity Commission; to provide protection for informants who expose misconduct in office by Leaders and public officers.
Meanwhile, the Assistant Secretary to the Prime Minister says Solomon Islands will request assistance in awareness training on the United Nations Convention Against Corruption for relevant national stakeholders.
The United Nations Pacific Regional Anti-Corruption Project has funded Solomon Islands participation at the session.
Mr Futaiasi is also the Solomon Islands Focal Point for the United Nations Convention Against Corruption.
The 5th session of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption session runs from October 13 to 15 in Vienna, Austria.
