U.S. Marines Hold 81st Anniversary Ceremony for Landing at Guadalcanal

As the sun rose over Honoraria on Monday morning, more than 100 people attended the 81st anniversary ceremony of the U.S. Marines landing at Guadalcanal on August 7, 1942. In attendance was the Governor General Reverend David Vunagi and Prime Minister Manesseh Sogavare.

U.S MILITARY HIGH-SPEED VESSEL TO HONIARA FRIDAY
A US Military high-speed vessel will arrive in Honiara this Friday. Called USNS Millinocket (JHSV 3), this is the ship’s third stop of Pacific Partnership 2015. Millinocket and embarked Task Force Forager, are currently serving as the secondary platform for Pacific Partnership 2015.

A US Navy Dive team is currently training members of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force Explosive Ordinance Disposal Team at the Hell’s Point training camp. The training focuses mainly on underwater clearance of unexploded ordnance and is part of an ongoing program that began three years ago.

USS KIDD (DDG100) VESSEL IN HONIARA WEDNESDAY
A US navy vessel, the U-S-S Kidd D-D-G One-Hundred, will be arriving in Honiara tomorrow (Wednesday 29). A statement from the US Consular Agency Office in Honiara confirms the vessel’s arrival and says there will be 32 officers and 250 enlisted personnel on board.
