TULAGI, Central Province – The National Disaster Management Office (NDMO), in collaboration with the Central Province Provincial Emergency Response Team (PERT), has officially started a coordinated five-day Initial Damage Assessment for Central Province starting Saturday, May 16, 2026.
The operation began in Tulagi, where NDMO officers arrived to conduct a formal briefing with the local PERT members. A key component of the preparation included a specialized training session for the response team on the use of the Kobo Collect Application, a digital tool designed to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of field data collection during disaster evaluations.
Following orientation, teams are scheduled to deploy to Savo Island and the Russell Islands on Sunday, May 17th. Field assessments will be carried out extensively across both locations from Monday, May 18th, through Wednesday, May 20th 2026. These assessments are important for identifying local needs and develop an informed recovery strategies.
