The donated vehicles

The Immigration Division of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, Labour and Immigration (MCILI) has received six new vehicles from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to strengthen its operational capacity across Solomon Islands.
The donation, handed over today, includes two off-roads and four pickups valued at more than SBD 1.5 million.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Chinese Ambassador to Solomon Islands, His Excellency Cai Weiming, described the vehicles as a “beautiful gift” to the Solomon Islands Government.
He said the vehicles would strengthen the Ministry’s law enforcement capabilities by improving transport efficiency, enhancing on-site service delivery, supporting efforts to combat transnational crime, and helping officers respond to emerging border security challenges.
“They are vivid examples of the practical and efficient cooperation between China and Solomon Islands,” Ambassador Cai said.
He added that immigration management cooperation is an important component of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between China and Solomon Islands.
Minister for Immigration, Hon. Harry Kuma, thanked the Chinese Government for its continued support and generosity.
He said the new vehicles would significantly improve the mobility of immigration officers as they carry out key responsibilities in immigration administration, border management, compliance monitoring, inspections, and enforcement operations throughout the country.
“As our nation continues to strengthen border security, facilitate lawful travel and immigration, and improve public service delivery, access to reliable transport is essential.
“These vehicles will enable our officers to respond more efficiently, deliver services more effectively, and uphold the integrity of our immigration system in support of national security and sustainable economic development,” Minister Kuma said.
He added that the assistance also aligns with the national government’s broader development agenda of strengthening public institutions, improving government service delivery, and building resilient national systems capable of responding to the growing needs of our country.
