CLIMATE RELATED WORKSHOP STARTED IN HONIARA TODAY

A workshop to enhance countries resilience to the adverse effects of climate change in agriculture and food security has started in Honiara today.

The Climate Services and Early Warning System Workshop ends on Thursday this week.

Opening the workshop, Permanent Secretary responsible for Climate Change and Meteorology, Dr Melchior Mataki said the workshop is important and will contribute to the successful installation of 12 automatic rain gauges and four automatic weather stations in the country.

“I would like to recognise the fact that this workshop will likely contribute to the installation of 12 automatic rain gauges right throughout the country and four automatic weather stations that of course will provide support from now on.”

The Permanent Secretary also said the National Government is committed to seeing the successful coverage of these projects.

“The government through the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, Disaster Management and Meteorology is committed to ensuring that the coverage in terms of early warnings for climate and weather related events are upgraded.”
