A community in East Are’are will soon have a proper water supply system, 28 years after its former supply system was destroyed by the Tropical Cyclone Namu in 1986.
Maro’umasike Village, home to around one hundred and twenty-two people, are using broken pipes to source drinking and cooking water from the water source – a limestone.
The new water supply system will construct a 5-thousand gallon cement tank and eight stand pipes in various locations in the village.
Chairman of Wara Zone in the region and a villager at Maro’umasike, Robert Tahi said despite many proposals, past Members of Parliament overlooked the Village and their need to have a decent water supply system.
Mr Tahi adds, the Village’s project proposal for a water supply system may have been sidelined for the past 28 years, because of politics.
“Since it was destroyed in 1986 up till now we haven’t received any funding until Honourable Manepora’a has seen our people’s need and has moved to address it. Our Honourable member never see this as politically motivated but has seen our people’s suffering for the last 28 years in terms of water supply”.
