A 22 year-old man who allegedly conned his way to getting more than one hundred thousand dollars has appeared this morning at the Magistrates Court.
At different times in 2012 and 2013, George Gwari allegedly conned three people, including a Chinese businessman, and collected one hundred and fifteen thousand and 8-hundred dollars from them.
He is being charged with five counts of false pretence.
Police records show Mr Gwari told his victims he has a project with the Government, and the project can provide them with equipments such as Lucas Sawmills, generators and solar panels.
Believing Mr Gwari was legitimate, the three men gave him money as down payment.
The first victim, a Chinese businessman, gave Mr Gwari fifteen-thousand-dollars in 2012.
His second victim paid him more than forty-one-thousand dollars, on three separate occasions, also in 2012.
His third victim paid him 59-thousand-dollars-eight-hundred-forty-dollars last year.
All three victims claimed Mr Gwari had lied to them about the project, and did not deliver anything to them as they had agreed.
Mr Gwari has denied the charges against him.
He will appear again in court on January 24 for a pre-trial conference.
