Director of the Public Prosecutions Ronald Bei Talasasa has recalled that among the many challenges he experienced as the Director of the Public Prosecution is making decisions on the prosecution of criminal cases.
DPP Talasasa made the remarks during an event to mark 10 years of his appointment last Friday.
The anniversary celebration included an open forum at the Museum Auditorium.
“In relation to making a decision whether or not to prosecute, first, there must be enough evidence to prove all the ingredients of an offence. This is not always easy to determine especially when an offence requests prove of a state of mind or an intention of which there is often little or no direct evidence. Even if there is evidence that tends to prove the necessary ingredients of an offence, generally speaking, not enough to warrant a prosecution.”
The celebration was also an opportunity to provide public awareness on the role the Public Prosecution and its partners play in the criminal justice of Solomon Islands.
