The Constitutional Reform Unit (CRU) begins its final consultation on the second 2014 Draft Federal Constitution of Solomon Islands with the Bar Association.
According to CRU work program for 2016, this is the final group out of the stakeholders’ consultations on the proposed Draft.
A statement from CRU says this is to get the legal perspective on the proposed Federal Constitution.
These include lawyers practicing from both private and public legal institutions in the country.
The statement adds, out of 50 anticipated participants, around 30 members were present on Day one of the awareness program, which was held at the Monarch IBS Conference room in Honiara.
Policy Secretary within the Office of the Prime Minister, Warren Paia, started the awareness program with a presentation on ‘From Unitary to Federalism’.
Some points in discussion were on the fiscal and revenue sharing aspects of the federation; the capability and capacity of the country to handle a federal arrangement; powers of the spheres of government, and the transitional methods from the options presented.
