“Now these women have actively lobbied for institutional change by conducting a gender audit in the workplace and they now have a very impressive gender action plan in place in their institution. They are having a regional impact beyond Solomon Islands by convening the first regional conference for women working in their sector. They actively celebrate the achievements of women and recently held a graduation ceremony for women trained to work in their field,” he said.
The ceremony took place as part of the Australian High Commission’s International Women’s Day breakfast.
International Women’s Day is celebrated globally each year on 8 March to commemorate the economic, political and social achievements of women.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, Disaster Management and Meteorology has today applauded women throughout the country for their contribution towards natural resource management on the eve of the International Women’s Day.
The International Women’s Day is celebrated every year on March 8.
Permanent Secretary Dr Melchior Mataki said women across the country have made invaluable contributions towards resource management in the face of changing climate and weather patterns, reoccurring natural disasters and rapidly changing socioeconomic conditions.
In the brief statement on behalf of his Minister and the Ministry, Dr Mataki said the Ministry recognizes and acknowledge the commitment of all women in the country working to meet the goals and objectives of the Government and in particular the Ministry.
He said the Ministry will continue to improve their partnership with women leaders and women-folk in implementing Ministry activities.
