The Solomon Islands Meteorological Services says the current monsoon trough might form a cyclone next week.
The Met office has issued a nationwide heavy rain warning due to the trough which lies over the Solomon Islands linking to a weak low located North East of Temotu province.
Director of Meteorology David Hiriasia says it is more likely for the current monsoon trough to become a tropical cyclone early next week.
Mr Hiriasia says, his office is still uncertain on which direction the system will take.
“It’s very likely that this system will develop into a tropical cyclone early next week, as I said we are still uncertain of which track it will take.”
Mr Hiriasia strongly advises people to take precautionary measures and listen to SIBC for further information and updates.
