The Democratic Coalition for Change (DCC) Government duly recognises the role of trade as a vehicle for the development of the country, says the Foreign Affairs Minister, Milner Tozaka.
Minister Tozaka made the statement this afternoon in Honiara when he officially launched the Solomon Islands first ever Trade Policy Framework Document.
The Foreign Affairs Minister told guests the launch is a demonstration of the Government taking action.
“When we set out our objectives in the DCC policy statement at the beginning of the year we documented our intention to implement trade-related strategic actions including to promote and facilitate trade in cooperation with regional and international partners. The launch of the policy, today is a demonstration of us taking action and diligently pursuing this objective to which we remain committed.”
Milner Tozaka also appealed to Government Ministries and partners to work towards integrating Solomon Islands into the global economy.
“Today’s launch by no means signals the end of the Trade Police Framework process but rather the beginning of the implementation phase. This next phase will require the active collaboration and participation by ministries and stakeholders in implementing the recommendations that will have wide-reaching benefits across our economy. It will be executed under the guidance and oversight of the National Trade Development Council.”
The Solomon Islands Trade Policy Framework wants to mainstream trade into the National Development Strategy.
Its official launch was held this afternoon at the Mendana Hotel in Honiara.
