Malu’u Area Health Centre in North Malaita has recorded 2-hundred and 52 diarrhea cases since the first case was detected early last month.
Malu’u Clinical and Acting Community Health Consultant Nurse, Lawrence Irobaea confirmed the figures to SIBC’s Malu’u stringer Lensley Kwaimani today.
Mr Kwaimani said according to Nurse Irobaea, these cases covered the cases first reported in early May up to Tuesday this week.
“Mr Irobaea said this report covered the cases being recorded from between the second week of May to the 10th of June 2014. He said out of this 2-hundred and 52 diarrhea cases, 70 have been regarded as severe and have been admitted at the hospital for hospital management and another 1-hundred and 82 diarrhea cases have been regarded as mild cases, who received outpatient medication and being sent home with healthcare advises.”
Nurse Irobaea said despite having no death cases, diarrhea is steadily increasing at an average of nine reported cases per day.
The Acting Community Health Consultant Nurse calls on community members in the Malu’u region to report diarrhea cases to the hospital as he believes a lot of them may be unreported.
