The Disaster Victims Coalition Task Force, DVCTF, recently established after the April floods has finally cleared the air over its formation and why it was established.
The coalition says it decided to clear people’s doubts over its formation and at the same time explain why the task force was formed.
Coalition Chairperson, Jeffery Leni told SIBC News their objective is to work in partnership with the National Disaster Management Office, NDMO, in the current relief efforts.
“Our main aim and objective is partnership with the National Disaster Management Office and other stakeholders, who involved in the relief operations at the care centres and other parts of the country, for example, like East Guadalcanal. That is our aim and goals, we want to see maximum benefits of the relief supplies reaching those who are really affected and people have immediate needs so that we can help them, sustaining them awaiting repatriation to the communities. That’s the goal we want to see.”
He says they also want to see realistic rehabilitation of flood victims where severely affected victims must be prioritised.
A repatriation plan in Mr Leni’s possession which he claimed is from the NDMO, shows that severely affected flood victims are only given tarpaulins and seeds, with no tools or materials for a house.
SIBC News understands, the government has repatriated a number of families with much needed tools to restart their livelihood and commitment to see genuine victims are remunerated accordingly.
