In Sports, doping tests will be introduced during this year’s Solomon Games.
The Solomon Game Secretariat says blood samples will be taken from athletes and tests will be conducted by experts in line with the International Testing and investigations accepted by the International Olympic Committee.
Athletes will be subjected to the second round of testing if samples tested positive and a final decision will be made after results have been received from overseas.
The Solomon Games Council is taking a tough stand on possible doping by athletes and managers are pre-warned to discourage their athletes from such cheating habits.
It warns, any athlete found guilty will face a possible life ban from any local or internal competition.
Ate Teraka of the Games Secretariat says the province which the athlete is representing will also face a heavy fine and will not be allowed to participate in any future Games until the penalty is settled.
Consumption of betel-nut can lead to positive results and athletes are advised to stay away from the habit or else they run the risk of being found guilty of doping.
The event is scheduled to be held in Honiara from 1st to 16th July.
