Chiefs in East Kwaio, Malaita Province say the constituency welcomes the new Voter Biometric Registration program.
Chief Jackson Waneagea made the statement after reports that East Kwaio people wanted to boycott the registration in their constituency because of the massacre that happened in the region in 1927.
Chief Waneagea said the 1927 massacre issue is in the hands of the government since 2008 to solve it in a proper manner.
The Chief also said the massacre and the biometric voters registration program are two different things, and that East Kwaio people should register to vote.
“We’ve left that with the government in 2008 and since then no information has reached us and that why we wanted to boycott the registrations. Now these is two different issues altogether, registration must go ahead, and that’s what I want,” said the Chief.
