FAILURE TO TABLE T.R.C REPORT REFLECTS BADLY ON GOV’T: FIOGA

A victim of the past Ethnic Tension Mr. Andrew Fioga says, failure to bring the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Report to the National Parliament reflects very badly on the outgoing government.

Mr Fioga says all victims of the sad chapter in our history have been eagerly waiting for the truth to be revealed and especially the recommendations contained in the report.

He says, recommendations in the report have been the product of wide consultation and suggest a peaceful path- moving forward.

The victim warns, the TRC report must not be swept under the carpet because of its potential repercussion.

“There are a lot of people, relatives who waited, their loved ones died. This is a bloody issue, people lost their lives for it, people have gone through life imprisonment for it. These things needs sorting out and once the government has failed to do this, you’re mistaken, you’re creating a cancerous cell which is affecting the country from within, which one day would be impossible to cure.”

However, in his recent parliamentary remarks on the TRC report, Prime Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo says, the government is keen to table the report in Parliament but wants to make sure people’s reaction are positive than otherwise.

He adds, it is just a matter of judging the right time to table the report and do not cause further problem- that is not an easy decision to make.
