Parliament has passed the Family Protection Bill 2014 today.
The 69 Clause Bill took Members of Parliament until late yesterday to go through the Committee stage, which was adjourned to today.
The Committee resumed after a Question and Answer session this afternoon.
Passing through the Committee stage without amendments – the Bill – now an Act will ensure preventative measures are in place so that violent behaviour and violent persons can be stopped before they have any chance to inflict further harm on the innocent and vulnerable members of their families.
Committing the Bill to its third reading in Parliament today, Justice and Legal Affairs Minister Commins Aston Mewa says he moved that it be red the third time, which was then conceded by the Speaker.
“Sir I move that the Family Protection Bill 2014 be now red a third time and do pass.”
“Honourable Members I’ll put the question, the question is that the family Protection Bill 2014 be now red the third time and do pass. Will those in favour say I, against say No, I think the I’s have it, the I’s have it. The motion is therefore passed.”
