The Australia-Pacific Technical College in Solomon Islands has completed training for its first cohort of early childhood education program participants in Auki, Malaita.
A total of 16 Kindergarten teachers began studying towards a Level three Australian Certificate in Early Childhood Education and Care in July of last year.
A statement from the APTC Solomon Islands says this is a minimum qualification for early childhood educators in Australia.
The certificate program helps increase the awareness of teachers on the importance of high-quality early childhood education and how to work towards achieving such standards.
Meanwhile, participants have responded positively to the program and many have commented on the detailed content of the curriculum.
One of the participants, Sandy Kukuti, shared that the program has really helped her to understand more about children.
She said her favourite part of the course was learning about the Australian Early Years Learning Framework, which helps teachers to provide quality early childhood education for children.
Another participant, Emily Pengalo also said, she has learned a lot about child protection issues, saying this is really important for all teachers, as knowing ways to protect children at school and in the community are vital for teachers.
