The Ministry of National Unity, Reconciliation and Peace has launched Solomon Islands’ first ever National Peace-Building Policy.
The policy is the first of its kind for the country and the Pacific.
A media statement from the Ministry says the National Peace-Building Policy is to ensure proper and effective coordination of peacebuilding activities in the country.
The policy will also ensure peace building is mainstreamed as an activity across all sectors of government and to all civil society organisations.
SIBC News understands Cabinet endorsed the National Peace-Building Policy last month.
Meanwhile, the Minister for National Unity, Reconciliation and Peace says, “peace building is everybody’s business”, and that all Solomon Islanders have a role to play when it comes to peacebuilding in the country.
Samson Maneka also says the Ministry is confident that the national peacebuilding policy will achieve its end result that Solomon Islanders will live in a peaceful environment and have equal opportunity.
He says the policy can be workable through the support and joint initiatives of all Solomon Islanders.
