FISHERIES MINISTRY TO INFORM PARLIAMENT ON BECHE-DE-MER

Speaker of Parliament, Sir Allan Kemakeza has given the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources until tomorrow to inform Parliament of the exact location of the beche-de-mer consignment which was stolen from the Ministry’s compound last year.

Sir Allen was reacting to answers by the Fisheries Minister Alfred Ghiro on the beche-de-mer issue which the Opposition Leader, Dr. Derek Sikua had raised in Parliament yesterday.

In Parliament, Sir Allan Kemakeza demanded a straight answer from the Fisheries Minister as to the whereabouts of the stolen beche-de-mer consignment.

“The Parliament need to know where these consignments are. I would suggest the Chair to provide the answers to the pigeon holes or the consignments are in Lungga or somewhere else so that the people of this nation it is their Parliament Honourable Members, they need to know the right answers by this weekend.”

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo assured Parliament yesterday, the Government through the Ministry of Fisheries will provide the required information to MPs pigeon holes by Friday – tomorrow.

“We will make sure that we provide that information to the pigeon holes by this weekend, but I agree with you Mr Speaker, this Parliament belongs to our people. We are all entrusted to be their voice in this house and we will try as much as we can lawfully to provide the information that is fair for the purpose that is being questioned.”
