A former Deputy Prime Minister Mr Kamilo Teke has called on the Democratic Coalition for Change (DCC) Government to involve
grass-roots people in its land reform consultation program.
He says any reform or review made must properly consider in its approach, the traditional way to acquire land.
“I want to emphasis on the consultations for the land reform that they must go right down to the grassroots level here in Solomon Islands because those are the people who are actually living on land.”
He adds, the aspects of land rights and land ownership is more sensitive and can create hiccup to national development if the
government fails to consider.
He also urge the consultation team to clearly explain to locals, the land registration and recording.
Mr Teke says as land issue becomes more sensitive, the government must approach people and groups in a manner that fosters understanding and interest.
