The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) has successfully commissioned four of its officers in Honiara today before their 12-month deployment under the UN Peace Keeping Mission in Darfur, Sudan this weekend.
Deputy Police Commissioner Juanita Matanga confirms this to local journalists.
“This morning we commissioned the RSIPF officers who will be deployed to Darfur in Sudan and they will be leaving the country on the 20th of this month.”
Meanwhile, Commissioner Matanga says the deployment is a historic achievement for both RSIPF and Solomon Islands.
“And I would like to say here that it’s a big achievement for our country as well as for the RSIPF in getting our officers to serve in peace missions.”
SIBC News understands RSIPF is yet to confirm another trained officer to join the mission team pending UN approval.
