Member of Parliament for South New Georgia Rendova and Tetepare, David Gina, has confirmed he remains in government and continues to serve as Minister for Rural Development (MRD) amid online speculation.
Mr Gina told SIBC News there have been no changes to his position.
“Yes, on Sunday I was sworn in as Minister for Rural Development. Currently, I am still the Minister,” he said.
His comments follow a photo circulating on Facebook showing him with Opposition Members, which led to claims he had switched sides.
Mr Gina dismissed the speculation, explaining that his movements after the swearing-in were part of normal arrangements.
He said he returned to his accommodation to collect his belongings and hand in his hotel key after he returned from Western province.
“That was simply part of the process after my appointment and should not be misinterpreted,” he said.
Mr Gina added that interacting with all Members of Parliament should not be seen as political alignment.
“Wherever I meet them, I talk. We are all MPs here—government or opposition,” he said.
“I am a Member of Parliament. That is our common ground.”
He said that despite political differences, leaders continue to engage with each other in the interest of the country.
Mr Gina was sworn in as Minister for Rural Development on April 26, 2026 at Government House in Honiara.
There has been no official confirmation of any change to his position.
