GIRLS FOOTBALL LEAGUE OPENED IN NORTH MALAITA

In Sports, a football league for girls under 16 years of age has officially opened in Malu’u, North Malaita.

SIBC Stringer in Malu’u Lensley Kwaimani reports this is the first time such a tournament is being held in the region and North Malaita is the third venue in the province to host the league.

Speaking yesterday at the opening of the Girls Under 16 Football League, Chair of the League’s organising committee Timothy Rarakona said he was pleased to see the league started in the To’obaita region.

“Speaking at the official opening, Chair of the organising committee Timothy Rarakona said as chair of the Under 16 Girls football league he is quite happy to see the league started, especially in Malu’u, To’obaita where girls were hardly seen playing football before. He said in the past parents regard football as a boys only game rather than girls.”

Lensley also reports there are attractive cash prizes for the winning teams.

“Prizes for the Girls Football league are as follows: first is a $2,000 cash plus a trophy; $1,000 cash for the second prize; $800 cash while the fourth, fifth and sixth are $500, $400 and $300 cash respectively.”

The North Malaita Under 16 Football League for Girls is facilitated by the Solomon Islands Football Federation.
