The Government is working to improve the capacities of the country’s foreign missions says the Prime Minister, Gordon Darcy Lilo.
In Parliament this week, Central Guadalcanal M-P Peter Shanel raised his concern on how some of the country’s diplomatic missions were of significant importance, but are bare and do not have people working in them.
Responding to the concern, Prime Minister Lilo says the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working on the matter.
“There has been, over the past 12 months two consultations have been held with all these principal representatives to work out an assessment as to how we can help them to improve their capacity. Begining of course with them assessing the kind of opportunities that we can tap from these regions and based on those opportunities then we can work on how we can build up, you know, the kind of capacity that will help including of course you know the selection of supporting staff to assist our principal representatives, Sir.”
The Prime Minister however said other pressing national demands might infringe on the whole process.
Solomon Islands currently has around ten fully pledged diplomatic foreign missions under the Vienna Convention.
