The government will consider amending the anti-corruption law as part of its policy reorientation program.
This was highlighted by the Prime Minister, Honourable Jeremiah Manele, MP, during a courtesy call from the Commissioners of the Solomon Islands Independent Commission against Corruption (SIICAC).
Prime Minister Manele stated that part of the amendment will address the resourcing aspect of SIICAC and strengthen the functions of its commissioners.
He acknowledged that the anti-corruption law needs to be strengthened to effectively address corruption.
The Chairman of SIICAC, Sir Frank Kabui, highlighted that the current issues faced by SIICAC are akin to a tiger without teeth.
Among other recommendations, Sir Frank suggested that SIICAC should minimize its overhead costs by moving to a more modest office, noting that the current office rental is too expensive.
The terms of the current SIICAC commissioners are scheduled to conclude in early December.
