The Honiara City Councillors will elect a new City Mayor on the 30th of this month.
Honiara City Clerk Charles Kelly says nominations for the Mayor’s post opens on the 29th of this month followed by the election 24 hours after the nomination lapse.
“Calling for a nomination is of the 29th of December. This means a whole day and night until 6am the next day and then the Mayor’s election will be on the 30th of December.”
Meanwhile, the 12 newly elected Councillors for the Honiara City Council have taken their oath at the Honiara City Council Chamber this morning.
Taking their oath before the Commissioner of Oath Stanley Hanu are Former Lord Mayor Andrew Mua for Ward one Ngosi, Eddie Ngava for Ward two Mbuburu and Eddie Siapu for Ward three Rove Lengakiki.
John Wale for Ward Four Cruz Ward, Jack Maeli Igi for Ward Five Vugokesa, John Aruhane for Ward six Vavaya, Erick Tema for Ward Seven Matanikau and Bradley Scott Rarai for Ward eight Kola.
Other Councilors include Charles Kira for Ward nine Kukum, Charles Aiwosuga for Ward ten Naha, Alfrence Inoga for Ward eleven Vura and Richard Safue for Ward twelve Panatina.
