The Solomon Islands Meteorological Service has upgraded a previously issued heavy rain alert to a heavy rain warning for all provinces.
The warning was issued this morning. It was prompted by a trough that lies over the country and is linked to a weak low located over the southeastern region.
Director of the meteorological service David Hiriasia warned people in the country to be careful while the warning is in effect.
“Precautionary measures should be taken, especially by those who are living close to rivers or streams that are prone to flooding,” he said. “It is important that people take note that there is bad weather across Solomon Islands at the moment.”
The next update will be made at 7 p.m. today.
After the heavy rain warning was issued, the National Emergency Operation Center released information about what to do in the event of heavy rain and flooding.
The information said current heavy rain would likely cause flooding to creeks, streams, major rivers and drains.
Motorists and mariners were also advised to take precautions.
