NEW IMMIGRATION OFFICE

The Solomon Islands Immigration Division, under the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, Labour and Immigration has reopened its refurbished office in Honiara earlier this week.
Supported by the Australian Government through the Australia-Solomon Islands Infrastructure Partnership, the refurbishment project aims to enhance the delivery of essential services to the people of Solomon Islands.
The initiative aligns with Australia’s $18 million commitment to support a new border management system, fully interoperable with Australian and Papua New Guinean immigration systems.
Speaking at the event, Australian High Commissioner to Solomon Islands, His Excellency Rod Hilton, emphasized that the refurbished office will support the Immigration Division in ensuring the safety of Solomon Islanders and harness the economic benefits of immigration.
He highlighted Australia’s role as a primary border security partner, focusing on creating local economic opportunities through infrastructure projects.
Meanwhile, Minister for Commerce, Industry, Labour and Immigration, Hon. Trevor Mahaga, noted that the investment will directly improve service delivery, speed up processes, and create a more professional and secure working space for immigration officers.
He stressed the crucial role of the Immigration Division in protecting the country’s people, society, and economy through safe and orderly migration.
Minister Mahaga also acknowledged the Australian Government for its support and commitment to strengthening immigration services in the country, through the implementation of the new border management system and modernized visa regime.
