The prime suspect has been charged, and two other suspects have been identified in the murder of a schoolgirl last November in Avuavu, South Guadalcanal.
But Police Commissioner Matthew Varley said at this stage, there is insufficient evidence to corroborate the involvement of those two remaining suspects.
“But we are still reviewing that, and we’re seeking some further advice from the DPP as to whether there is any evidence sufficient enough for anyone else to be charged,” he said.
Mr Varley said police are conducting interviews to advance the murder investigation.
According to police, three men armed with bush knives allegedly approached the victim when she was returning home from school on November 14.
The girl’s mutilated body was found three days later discarded by the side of the road in a scene that police described as “horrific” and “brutal”.
