An Interplast Australia and New Zealand Nurse Education team are currently visiting the Solomon Islands.
A statement from the Australian High Commission Office says the team is working at the National Referral Hospital to provide two concurrent training programs, one for local nursing staff and one focused on the diabetic foot clinic.
The statement adds nurses undertaking the diabetic foot clinic training have learnt that every 20 seconds somewhere in the world, a major amputation is performed as a consequence of diabetics.
