The Chairlady of the Solomon Islands Electoral Commission (SIEC), Mrs. Teasi Sanga, officially declared the country’s first-ever Joint Election closed this evening, following the efforts and dedication of the SIEC staff in successfully conducting the historic election last Wednesday.
The Chairlady described the country’s first-ever Joint Election as successful, noting a positive voter turnout across the nation as citizens exercised their democratic right to vote.
Emphasizing the challenges involved in conducting a Joint Election, Mrs. Sanga highlighted that it required changes to some of the country’s laws.
She expressed the Commission’s intent to learn from this experience, particularly from the reports of international and domestic observers.
“We need to decide whether we should continue with Joint Elections in the future or revert to the normal system.”
“We look forward to receiving reports from the Observer Missions as they will help us identify areas for improvement,” said Chairlady Sanga.
Mrs. Sanga on behalf of the Commission, thanked all stakeholders, including voters, political parties, observers, and candidates, for their participation in this peaceful joint election.
