The Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has conducted a media tour to its program sites today.
The tour brings together local Journalists on a visit to project sites and volunteers.
It is to provide basic knowledge about Japan’s Overseas Cooperation Volunteers to the people of Solomon Islands.
In a brief orientation, Japanese Ambassador to Solomon Islands Kenichi Kimiya said, the Japanese volunteers program aims to transfer Japanese experiences and knowledge in capacity development.
“It is no coincidence that Japan’s ODA started with technical cooperation that seeks to transfer our experiences and knowledge directly in building the capacity of the people of a developing partner.”
Meanwhile, Permanent Secretary for the Public Service Ministry Nego Sisiolo said, the Japanese volunteer program has assisted his Ministry in effective public service delivery.
“At the outset I would like to emphasize the fact that the Ministry of Public Service does highly appreciate JICA’s grassroots volunteer program because it significantly contributes to our overall effort of delivering an efficient and effective Public Service to the public.”
SIBC News understands a total of 18 Japanese International Cooperation volunteers is currently working in various fields in the provinces and Honiara under a two years contract.
