A more than $560,000 grant contract has been signed between the Japanese Embassy and Afufu Community High School in Malaita province.
The grant is to cover costs to build a two-story classroom and two staff houses.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, Japanese Ambassador to Solomon Islands Kenichi Kimiya says the project will ensure adequate learning environment for Afufu school pupils.
“This project aims to provide a better learning environment for the children of Afufu community. The total amount of assistance reaches about SBD$560,000
Meanwhile, in his response, School Board Chair Timothy Talui says the school is overwhelmed to receive assistance from the Japanese Government.
“Upon hearing the report so far from your office that our project was approved, we were very appreciative for what you have given to our people. We believe your generosity would help track down some of our developmental structures which we have been longing for.”
