The Japanese government will inject additional 22.7 million Solomon dollars to support its ongoing Solomon Islands Airport Upgrade project.
This is in addition to its ongoing upgrade project worth more than 3-hundred million Solomon dollars.
Japanese Ambassador to the Solomon Islands His Excellency Yasuhiro Morimoto told the Public Accounts Committee recently.
He says the funding will be allocated because of the delay in implementing the project due to COVID-19.
“My government is ready to inject additional 300 million yen in the project to cover the delays caused by the COVID-19 Pandemic.”
Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare and the Japanese Ambassador Morimoto will make a site visit to the Henderson International airport tomorrow.
Kitano Company has been contracted to do the upgrade.
Meanwhile, Ambassador Morimoto says, two of their current multi-million dollar projects are to purchase a Patrol Boat for the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources and phase two of the Kukum High Way Project.
He calls on the government to settle its obligations before the High way project continues.
“We hope your government will do their obligation by settling compensation claim issues, land ownership transfer before we can go into the next bidding process as soon as possible.”
He says the two projects are expected to be completed before the 2023 Pacific Games.
