A grant contract of more than SBD$500,000 has been awarded to the a community in the Isabel Province from the Japanese Government.
Funded under the Grassroots project fund managed by the Japanese Embassy, the grant aid will go towards improving water and sanitation systems at Koghe Community in Isabel Province.
Speaking yesterday at the grant’s signing, Japan’s Ambassador to Solomon Islands Kenichi Kimiya says the Koghe Community should take full responsibility to implement the project.
“On behalf of the people and the government of Japan I would like to take this opportunity to emphasise that we are very pleased to contribute to the development for the people of Solomon Islands. I would also like to say that today is the beginning for you and your community to start a huge responsibility to implement this project properly under your strong leadership.”
In his response to the grant aid, the Director of Isabel Provincial Health Services Dr Donald Kafa says the funding is a welcome assistance as water has been inaccessible to the community.
“For this Koghe water supply project and sanitation, this is a very significant and very much-welcomed assistance due to certain situational reasons like; first of all that the Koghe community is a highland community that has no water supply service for the past years.”
SIBC News understands the grant aid includes materials such a 4,000 gallon concrete water tank, 22 standpipes and 60 toilet facilities.
