Handing Over Management Plan

Kongulavata Community on Gizo Island in Western Province on Thursday launched its sea grape management plans and enforcement program, as well as its financial inclusion initiatives, in conjunction with the Community-led Adaptation Pathways for the Solomon Islands (CAPSI) document.
The management plans and CAPSI outcome documents were handed over to residents, marking the official establishment of the Kongubule Women’s Savings Club.
Planning Advisor for the Western Provincial Government, Nickson Gurusu, encouraged the community to manage its resources well.
“Look after and manage your resources well. If you look after your resources, the government will support you in securing this land,” he said.
Meanwhile, WWF–Solomon Islands’ Gizo Field Office Coordinator, Salome Topo, urged community members to take responsibility for the management plan.
“This is a community road map that will guide the community in managing its sea grapes. Please take ownership of this project and ensure action and compliance so the rules in the document are implemented effectively.
“These projects also demonstrate the involvement of women and recognize equality,” she said.
This initiative is funded by the Australian Government through DFAT and delivered by WWF-Australia under the WWF-Pacific and WWF–Solomon Islands programs.
The support focuses on climate change and resilience, working with communities to create nature-based solutions, including sustainable sea grape management.
