People unloading relief supplies

The Koriovuku community in Western Province has received much-needed food supplies, nearly three weeks after Tropical Cyclone Maila.
The relief assistance was delivered on Sunday by the vessel Nakita, coordinated by the Western Provincial Disaster Operations Committee (PDOC).
Speaking to SIBC News, resident Chris Podokolo said the arrival of the supplies has brought relief to the community.
“For almost three weeks, families have been struggling after their food gardens were destroyed,” he said.
“Today, we can finally see smiles on the faces of our people after receiving these supplies.”
He added that men, women, children, the elderly, and people living with disabilities gathered to witness the unloading and distribution.
“Everyone came out to see the food being unloaded. It gives hope to the whole community,” he said.
Meanwhile, Koriovuku Community Disaster Chairman Rocky Rilifia said the assistance has arrived at a critical time.
“Our people have been depending on limited food resources since the cyclone. This support is very important as we continue to recover,” he said.
He also acknowledged the Western Provincial Disaster Operations Committee for responding to the community’s needs, particularly in providing food assistance.
