The office of the Leadership Code Commission (LCC) will meet soon to decide on their next course of action following the refusal of Forestry Minister Bodo Dettke to relinquish his portfolio.
LCC Chair Francis Luza says the Commission will hold a meeting soon to among other issues, reiterate its earlier call for Mr. DLettke to relinquish his portfolio.
M. Luza adds LCC believes Mr. Dettke has personal interests with certain logging companies in the country.
He says Mr. Dettke refused to adhere to their call – therefore the next course of action is being called for.
Mr. Luza says it is the Commission’s role to advise leaders and protect their reputation.
Mr. Dettke’s lawyer Gabriel Suri had previously responded to the call, saying the Commission acted outside of its statutory role.
He said under the LCC Act, where there is a conflict of interest involving the leader, he or she shall get rid of his or her commercial interest.
Mr. Suri said the Act does not state the leader must relinquish his portfolio if there is a potential conflict of interest.
